Jim Thorpe Borough selected Advanced Code Consultants as its new code enforcement and zoning services provider Thursday night, ending a partnership with Bureau Veritas that had lasted over 5 years.
Council President Connor Rodgers cited consistency issues with the previous provider as a reason for the change.
“Recently, Bureau Veritas has had issues providing us with a consistent zoning officer, and that’s not really their fault, just what’s going on in the industry,” Rodgers said.
The borough sought a more reliable arrangement for the critical position.
“We were looking for someone reliable, consistent, and we’re not going to have, hopefully, any turnover in the next few years,” Rodgers said.
Advanced Code brings local expertise to the role through its lead official, Greg Kurtz, who previously worked for the borough.
“He knows the borough, he knows the streets, knows the residents, and he knows zoning. He’ll be a good asset for the borough,” Rodgers said.
Three companies, he added, expressed interest in the position, all of which were qualified candidates. Advanced Consulting was formed two years ago.
The borough’s administration committee will work on establishing standard operating guidelines with the new provider over the next few months, Rodgers said.
