Nesquehoning office staff has new 4-year contract

Nesquehoning’s secretaries and clerks officially have a new union contract.

Borough Council recently voted to approve the new Teamsters contract. Council members Suzanne Smith, William Bamford and Paul Kattner were absent.

The contract had previously been tabled in November to provide for further discussion before a final decision was made.

Council President Bruce Nalesnik said the contract had a few changes, including that it was extended to be a four-year contract, rather than a three-year pact. This is to allow for the borough to have negotiations with this union, as well as for public works in the same year.

Nalesnik said that there were some clarifications made to healthcare.

“The healthcare employee match was cleaned up to create a true 4% contribution with no caps,” he said, noting that previously there had been caps on the contribution.

“Other than that, there really was no major changes,” Nalesnik added.
