Lehighton Borough Council took the following action recently:
• Adopted a resolution setting the 2026 sewer fees with a $2 increase monthly. The rate for residential properties will go from $43 to $45, commercial properties from $54 to $56, and churches from $25 to $27.
• On a 5-1 vote, hired an unnamed candidate for the utility billing clerk position, pending offer acceptance and preemployment screening. Councilman Dave Arndt was opposed.
• Hired a part-time crossing guard, pending background check.
• Reappointed Strubinger Law Offices as zoning hearing board solicitor.
• Approved a request from Full Gospel Tabernacle Bread of Life for no parking signs on Third Street and South Street for their event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 15. The event will honor 20 years of the church’s journey and church building dedication.
• Approved an application from the Lehighton Parks & Recreation Board for use of property and road closure from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 13.
• Approved the 2025 exoneration list and delinquent collection list from the tax collector.
