Police release details of Mahoning fatal crash

State police at the Lehighton barracks have released a report on the fatal two-vehicle crash that happened at 3:15 p.m. Jan. 31 on Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East (Route 443), Mahoning Township, and claimed the life of Genevieve L. Snyder, 32, of Summit Hill.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 p.m. by Carbon County Deputy Coroner Erika Reinheimer.

They said the crash also resulted in injuries to Jovani A. Ortiz, 38, of Catasauqua, who was a passenger in the car driven by Snyder, and James G. Stoneback, 65, of Quakertown, who was a passenger in the second vehicle.

Police said Ortiz was flown by helicopter to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, where he is listed in stable condition. They said Stoneback was taken by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Corps to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, to be treated for suspected minor injuries.

Police said the crash occurred when Snyder was driving a 2015 Hyundai Veloster eastbound at a high rate of speed. They said as the Veloster approached a 2023 Ford F550 driven westbound by Thomas C. Stoneback, 42, also of Quakertown, the F550 was slowing down to turn left into a parking lot when it was struck by the Veloster.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene and a Troop N Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit was summoned to the scene to investigate the crash.
