Lansford uses contractors to remove snow

Lansford Borough began removing snow from West Ridge and East Abbott streets, bringing in outside contractors to help with hauling the snow away.

Work will continue to West Ridge from Center to Courtright Street, and East Abbott toward Springgarden Street, Route 903, today, borough council Vice President Joe Genits said. Vehicles should be removed to allow crews to work, he said.

The borough issued a parking restriction for all of Abbott Street on Thursday and Friday, as cleanup continues westward.

A parking restriction remains on the borough’s narrowest streets — Water and Front streets, and Kline and Snyder avenues — through the local disaster emergency declaration, which will continue through Feb. 1, or until lifted by Mayor Denise Leibensperger.

Police, when available, have been assisting the elderly and disabled who have needed help moving their vehicles off the streets, the mayor said.

The borough has not been ticketing people for not removing snow from their sidewalks at this time, Genits said, but he hopes that people will clear their sidewalks voluntarily.
