Palmerton man waives vehicle theft, drug charges

A Palmerton man has waived charges stemming from a vehicle theft and drug possession incident earlier this month.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Officer Brian Stern of the Palmerton Borough Police Department, police were dispatched at 4:41 a.m. Jan. 14 to the 400 block of Delaware Avenue for a report of a suspicious man attempting to enter a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Stern saw a man matching the description running erratically on Fifth Street. The man was identified as Christopher Field, 34, of Palmerton, from prior contacts. Field was taken into custody and placed in Stern’s patrol vehicle.

he complainant reported seeing Field inside a black 2013 Subaru Impreza with the hood up and hazard lights on. Field was then observed walking to a blue 2011 Ford F-350 parked in the 400 block of Alley F and attempting to gain entry.

The owner of the truck was contacted, and the vehicle was checked to ensure nothing had been removed. During the inspection, police found a multicolored glass pipe containing burned vegetable matter and a multicolored grinder containing green vegetable matter inside a plastic container in the truck bed.

Nearby surveillance footage showed Field approaching the truck and removing items from it.

While officers were investigating, Stern was dispatched to the 100 block of Delaware Avenue for a report of a stolen black 2013 Subaru Impreza. The vehicle was located, verified as stolen and secured, and the owner was contacted.

Field faces charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, possession of marijuana, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 monetary bail and appeared Wednesday before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.
