W. Penn to hire seasonal road worker

West Penn Township has agreed to bring on a seasonal employee to help ease some of the burden on its undermanned road department.

Supervisors unanimously agreed Tuesday morning to amend the agenda to discuss employee positions at the behest of board Chairman Tony Prudenti.

Prudenti said, “One of our full-time employees was just diagnosed with cancer,” Prudenti said. “We need him to rest, get better, do whatever he needs to do.”

The road department also has another employee who is out on medical leave as well.

Roadmaster Jeremy Frable discussed the road department’s current dilemma.

“We’re understaffed for plowing snow and making sure the roads are open,” Frable said.

It was recommended that the township hire a seasonal employee to work up to 30 hours per week.

Supervisors approved the motion unanimously, though no salary was discussed and no rate had yet to be set.

Also on Tuesday, Frable thanked Bryan Miller for donating a tractor trailer load of salt to the township.

Supervisors said Miller has often made donations to the township.
