The Panther Valley girls and boys won both games against Jim Thorpe Saturday during the Coach Carroll Classic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Panther Valley

Panther Valley opened the Coach Carroll Classic with a 50-16 non-league victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

Morgan Orsulak posted a double-double to lead the Panthers. Orsulak finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

PV’s Lucy Kocha made four three-pointers on her way to a 17-point performance, while Ace Aponte chipped in with eight.

For the Olympians, Brooklyn Yuhas scored a team-high six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Panther Valley

Panther Valley built a comfortable lead, and then held off a late Jim Thorpe rally to cap the Coach Carroll Classic with a 65-55 non-league victory.

The Panthers took a 19-point advantage into the fourth quarter, but the Olympians tallied 20 fourth-quarter points to make things interesting.

Ben Baneravege hit four of his five three-pointers in the first half, and led all scorers with 17 points. He also pulled down five rebounds.

Danny Wehr and Brody Breiner finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, during the balanced effort. Jarell Thomas also contributed 10 points and five boards.

Thorpe’s Pierce Gothard tallied 10 of his team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, while Cole Lazorick finished with nine and Michael Antignani added eight.
