Fair says new site will double size

A 41-acre plot of land where the Carbon County Fair plans to locate will be twice as big as its current location.

The Carbon County Fair purchased the property adjacent to 2985 Little Gap Road in Palmerton in 2012 “with the hopes of having a forever home.”

As part of a field visit conducted Tuesday morning, Tara Latshaw, assistant vice president, said the property is “almost like double our size.”

Latshaw said that once completed, the property will have two separate entrances, along with two separate parking lots, and a long roadway connecting both parking lots.

“It will give us room for more rides, more vendors,” Latshaw said. “We’ll be able to have more than one event.”

The property is just down the road from its current site on Little Gap Road.

In the meantime, Latshaw noted that the fair is fundraising for the new fairgrounds.

She said they are now selling tickets for their High Stakes Bingo event to be held March 29 at the Bowmanstown Fire Company; online raffles for different items; and does dine and donates throughout the year.

Latshaw said that for more information, follow the Carbon County Fair on its Facebook page.

Malinda Fox, president of the fair, said that for many years, the fair has been incredibly grateful to lease its space from Blue Mountain.

Fox added the move will result in a permanent home, with the ability to host events all year long.

She said there will be more space for vendors, rides, food, entertainment, and more.

Fox said the fair will still take place the same week as it always has, noting that tradition matters.

She noted that after many years, it has cleared its largest hurdle in meeting the requirements set forth by the state Department of Environmental Protection.

As a result, Fox said they are hopeful that as their engineer leads them through the permits process of Lower Towamensing Township, that they could be in their permanent home by 2027.
