Lansford police investigate drive-by shooting

Lansford police continue to investigate a reported drive-by shooting in the 300 block of West Abbott Street Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to the report of a shooting at 4:10 p.m., in which witnesses say a blue vehicle drove by, they heard two gunshots and then saw men fleeing the area, Sgt. Shawn Nunemacher said.

No one was shot in the incident, he said, and everyone fled.

Officers were then dispatched to the 600 block of East Bertsch Street, where a man said that he was assaulted and had money stolen from him in the area of Patterson and Powell streets.

Police are looking at a connection between the two incidents, Nunemacher said. The man from the assault said he was attacked by one of the men from the previous incident, police said.

All the parties involved in the two incidents knew each other, officials said, and this is considered an isolated incident.

People were initially detained, but no one is being forthcoming with additional information, Nunemacher said. No one is currently in custody, officials said.

Nunemacher said they will continue to investigate and hope to file charges in the shooting.

“You can’t just be shooting in the middle of the street,” he said.

Summit Hill police, Carbon County detectives and the state police forensics unit were assisting in the investigation.

Additional details may be released as they become available. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lansford Police Department at 570-645-5844.
