Home damaged in Mahoning Twp.; no injuries

No one was injured in a house fire that broke out early Tuesday afternoon in Mahoning Township.

Mahoning Valley Assistant Fire Chief Jay Michalik said firefighters responded shortly after noon to a fire at a single home in the 200 block of Fritz Drive.

“Upon arrival, we did find heavy smoke up on the second floor,” Michalik said. “Volunteers made an aggressive interior attack and located the fire on a second-floor bedroom.”

Michalik said several family members were at home at the time of the fire, but that they were uninjured.

He said it was a quick attack by firefighters, who were able to extinguish the fire fairly quickly.

“The damage was limited to the second-floor bedroom, with water and smoke damage to the house,” Michalik said.

Michalik said the cause of the fire is accidental.

He said firefighters remained on scene for about an hour and a half.

Michalik said also assisting at the scene were the Lehighton Fire Department.

Fire companies from Mahoning Valley and Lehighton were dispatched to a working dwelling fire Tuesday afternoon in Mahoning Township. The call came in shortly after noon for a fire in the 200 block of Fritz Drive. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found smoke showing from the attic area of the house. The fire was located and extinguished without injury. Fire personnel were on the scene for about two hours. COPYRIGHT LARRY NEFF/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
