Palmerton Hungarian Club donates $4,000 to pantry

A Palmerton group is the latest to donate to a local food pantry.

The Palmerton Hungarian Club recently donated $4,000 to the Christian Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches.

Raquel Serfass-Lutton, board member, Palmerton Hungarian Club, said the donations were made possible through the group’s small games of chance.

“Through membership, we try to be as involved in the community as possible,” Lutton said.

John DeSousa, co-director of the Palmerton Food Pantry, thanked the Palmerton Hungarian Club for its generosity.

DeSousa said donations such as these are what enable them to do what they need to do ensure food goes to those who need help.

“It shows the community’s desire to help others in need,” DeSousa said. “It’s an outstanding demonstration of the community spirit of Palmerton.”

Lutton noted that the group has given out a total of $10,000 to area organizations this year.

She said those organizations include the Palmerton United Veterans Organization ($2,000), Valor House ($2,000), Palmerton Area Library $1,000) and Palmerton Community Band ($1,000).

The donation marks the third one CACPAC received since last month.

Earlier this month, Country Harvest Family Market in Palmerton donated $1,000.

Last month, Jim and Tiffani Christman of The Jim Christman Team presented a $1,000 check to CACPAC in advance of the annual Bo Tkach Foundation 5K Turkey Trot that was held on Thanksgiving Day.
