State police at Lehighton - crashes

State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:

• The driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that went through an intersection without stopping at a stop sign was cited after a crash.

Police said the incident occurred at 11:31 a.m. Dec. 19 at the intersection of Lower Smith Gap and Covered Bridge roads, Lower Towamensing Township.

Police did not identify the drivers. They said the Cruze was southbound on Covered Bridge Road when it entered the intersection and struck a 2017 Toyota RAV4. The Toyota was towed from the scene.

• Benjamin J. Smiley, 24, of Kunkletown, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance after a two-vehicle crash at 6:37 p.m. Dec. 17 on Forest Inn Road, Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said Magaly Marrero, 39, of New York, New York, had suspected minor injuries after the crash. She was transported by personnel from the Palmerton Community Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

They said the crash occurred as Smiley was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer southbound on Forest Inn Road when the vehicle entered the northbound lane and struck a 2023 Acura operated by Marrero.

Police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.

• Halie E. Pryce, 22, of Walnutport, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 4:42 p.m. Dec. 17 at the intersection of Interchange Road and Route 248 in Franklin Township, police said. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said the crash occurred as Pryce was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Route 248 when she attempted to make a left turn and the Jeep hit a 2012 Toyota RAV4 driven by Jennifer L. Hunsicker, 55, of Palmerton, who was southbound.

Police said both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene. They said the intersection was closed for about 50 minutes after the crash.

• Carlos D. Cordon Arriola, 20, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 1:06 a.m. Dec. 15 on Meixsell Valley Road, Ross Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla eastbound when it traveled onto the north side of the road and struck a utility pole. The Corolla was towed from the scene.

• Brett A. Mackes, 26, of Lehighton, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 6:31 a.m. Dec. 14 on Church Hill Road, East Penn Township.

Police said it is unknown whether or not he was injured as he left the scene of the crash.

They said he was driving a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and the car left the road and struck a utility pole. It was towed from the scene.

• Nicholas A. Reichard, 19, of Palmerton, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle crash at 10:23 a.m. Dec. 13 on Forest Inn Road, Lower Towamensing Township. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 southbound when it entered the northbound lane while navigating a curve in the roadway and struck the driver’s side of a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander driven by Kelsey A. Royer, 36, of Palmerton.

Police said both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

• Crystal M. Davis, 31, of Lehighton, had suspected minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 6:21 p.m. Dec. 19 at the intersection of Interchange Road and Rock Street in Franklin Township.

Police said the crash occurred when Michael A. Rooney, 53, of Weissport, was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and failed to stop for oncoming traffic, striking a 2010 Mercury Milan driven southbound on Interchange Road by Davis.

Police said Rooney was cited after the crash.

They said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
