Monroe board recognizes two people, new business

The Monroe County commissioners honored a new business and two people — one of their own — during their meeting on Dec. 17.

Commissioner David C. Parker was honored for his appointment to the Advisory Board of the East Stroudsburg Salvation Army. Parker thanked the commissioners for the recognition.

“It’s an honor to serve that organization,” he said about the Salvation Army.

Commissioner Sharon Laverdure asked him how long he has been serving with the Salvation Army, and Parker replied that he has been involved with the Salvation Army since he was a child. He explained that his mother would take him and his siblings to their center to help distribute Christmas baskets. He did that for many years, then in the early 2000s, he began serving on the Advisory Board.

The commissioners also honored NYC Indian Grill for its grand opening and Lorrie DeHaven, the chief deputy treasurer, for her retirement.

Commissioner Chairman John Christy presented a certificate to DeHaven.

“I understand that you have trained way too many treasurers in Monroe County, and we appreciate what you have done for us for over 41 years of dedicated service to the county of Monroe,” he said.

Christy joked with her, saying that she must have started working for the county right after junior high school. DeHaven laughed and said she actually started working part time for the county and then moved into full-time work in 1984.

As for NYC Indian Grill, Parker said he went to the grand opening.

“It was a wonderful event,” he said.

Parker said they had a beautiful Indian buffet for those who attended the grand opening. He added that the food was delicious and that the business is a nice addition to the community.
