Eldred passes 2026 budget with no tax hike
The tax rate will remain unchanged in Eldred Township for 2026.
“There is no tax increase. That’s the important thing,” said Scott Clark, the chairman of the supervisors. “I think we’re all very happy with that. With the way that costs are going up, expenses going up, we’re able to still stay in there, so it’s all good news.”
The supervisors passed the budget unanimously Wednesday night.
The taxes will remain at 2.2 mills. Of that total, the general tax rate is 1.7 mills, fire protection is .25 mills, and the truck fund for the Public Works Department is .25 mills.
Ann Velopolcek, the township’s secretary, said truck prices for the Public Works Department and fire department are very expensive, but since the township created fund groups a few years ago, it has been able to save up money slowly in anticipation of future expenses.
“We bought a truck this year and we didn’t have to finance it,” she said.
Saving the money up over time helped the township again on Wednesday night.
During the supervisors meeting, they approved paying the township’s portion of the cost of a chassis for a tanker fire truck. The township’s portion of the cost was $152,974.
Velopolcek explained that the chassis includes the completed cab compartment and frame, but it will still need to be outfitted with the specific elements needed for a tanker fire truck. The township used money in the fire protection fund to pay for this contribution.
As for the budget, the township expects to carry over $1,115,000 from this year. The budget shows it anticipates bringing in $2,273,597 in income in 2026 for a total balance of $3.388,597.
Expenses are anticipated to total $2,481,605, which means the township anticipates it will spend $208.009 more than it earns in revenue. That will leave $906,991 to be carried over into 2027.
The township will hold a reorganization meeting at 7 p.m. on Jan. 5. This will be followed by their regular meeting. As a result, there will not be any supervisors meeting on the third Wednesday of January.
