State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• Three people had suspected minor injuries after the car they were in hit a deer at 7:14 p.m. Nov. 16 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Police said Jose R. Diaz, 60, Fiord Fernandes De Diaz, 40, and an 8-year-old girl, all from West Hazleton, were injured. Diaz, who was the driver, refused a medical services transport from the scene. His passengers were transported by personnel from the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton.

Police said the crash occurred when Diaz was westbound in a 2024 Honda Accord when a deer ran into the roadway and was struck.

Diaz was cited for vehicle with an expired registration, according to police.

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 3:16 p.m. Dec. 10 on Bartonsville Woods Road, Jackson Township.

Police said the crash occurred as Jacob R. Velez, 23, of Effort, was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound when it traveled off the right side of the road and hit a tree. The Silverado had disabling damage and was towed.

• William A. Eltz, 64, of Easton, was uninjured when the vehicle he was driving hit a deer on Interstate 80 in East Side Borough.

Police said he was westbound in a 2019 Ford Explorer when the incident occurred. The Explorer was towed from the scene.

• Chayann Marte Rodriguez, 23, of Hazleton, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 1 p.m. Dec. 2 on Interstate 80 in East Side Borough.

Police said he was westbound in a 2024 Honda when he lost control of it after it struck ice/slush on the road. The car traveled off the left side of the road and hit a guide rail. It was towed from the scene.

• Kelsey A. Stone, 34, of Effort, had suspected minor injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 5:26 p.m. Dec. 9 on Effort Neola Road, Chestnuthill Township. Police said she was not transported from the scene.

They said she was driving a 2020 Toyota RAV4 westbound when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Kennel Road and struck a ditch.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Stone was cited after the crash, according to police.

• Nathan D. Kaczmarek, 31, of Effort, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a one-vehicle crash at 9:50 a.m. Dec. 2 on Sugar Hollow Road, Chestnuthill Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2021 Jeep Renegade eastbound when he lost control of it. The Renegade hit a tree on the left shoulder of the road and sustained heavy front-end damage. It was towed from the scene.

• Police said a 2020 Cadillac became lodged between a truck and a snowbank in an incident that occurred at 12:49 p.m. Dec. 3 on Longfellow Circle, Penn Forest Township. They did not identify the driver.

They said the Cadillac was westbound when it made contact with a 2023 Dodge Ram truck from the Asplundh Tree Expert company and became lodged between the truck and the snowbank until workers on scene dug out the Cadillac. It was able to be safely driven from the scene.

Police said the driver was cited after the crash.

• Dominique S. Cheatham, 32, of Middleport, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 1:49 p.m. Nov. 30 on Shakespeare Drive, Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was driving a 2018 Toyota Yaris northbound when she lost control and hit a tree.

• Richard W. Scott, 59, of Stroudsburg, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 10:28 a.m. Nov. 30 on Effort Neola Road, Chestnuthill Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound when he lost control and struck a parked 2021 Road Clipper utility trailer.

• Sai Prabhas Mallidi, 22, of Durham, North Carolina, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 3:34 a.m. Nov. 29 on Burger Hollow Road, Chestnuthill Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2023 Kia Forte eastbound when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Merwinsburg Road. The car traveled across the intersection and went 50 to 75 feet into shrubbery.

Police said the car was towed from the scene.
