Tamaqua police log
Tamaqua police reported the following incidents:
• A Port Carbon man who fled from police on Dec. 5 is facing charges of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, evading arrest and a host of other offenses.
According to police, officers were on patrol at 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 5 when they noticed a vehicle cross the double yellow lines to pass another on East Broad Street. Police activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, which they said was driven by David Legutko, 43.
Police said Legutko continued traveling through the borough despite officers’ pursuit. He drove onto Hunter Street, where a pedestrian told police he was almost hit by the vehicle. Police followed Legutko onto West Spruce Street and to the Boyer’s Food Store parking lot, where he parked and exited his vehicle. As they ran his license plate, a customer said she saw a man exit the vehicle and run into the store.
Officers found Legutko inside the store and took him into custody. Police later learned that his license was suspended.
Police also charged him with driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked/DUI-related, careless driving, driving at a safe speed, no passing zones, disregard for traffic lane and improper passing.
• A Tamaqua man who scaled a brick wall in an attempt to avoid being captured by police was apprehended.
Police charged Barry Ohl, 32, with evading arrest or detention on foot, resisting arrest and flight to avoid apprehension following the 4 p.m. on Dec. 5 incident.
According to police, officers were on patrol near Fegley Mini Mart and spotted a man, later identified as Ohl, walking in the parking lot and appearing to hide his identity. Police patrolled the area near the business and said Ohl reappeared, looked at their vehicle and immediately turned around.
When officers activated emergency lights, Ohl began running.
Police told Ohl to stop but he scaled a 5-foot brick wall. Police followed and deployed a stun gun but it had no effect.
Officers eventually caught Ohl and took him into custody when it was learned he was wanted on a warrant. Ohl was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison.
