Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 6
The Tamaqua and Panther Valley girls basketball teams both picked up non-league wins over the weekend.
The Raiders downed Pleasant Valley, while the Panthers dropped Palisades.
The Tamaqua girls swim team also picked up a victory.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Tamaqua-Pleasant Valley
Tamaqua snapped a two-game losing streak with a 54-16 rout of Pleasant Valley in non-league play.
The Blue Raiders took control of the game with a 24-point second quarter.
Kendle Miller led the winners with a game-high 17 points, while Lauren Ligenza had a double-double. Ligenza scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Leah Black contributed to the victory with 10 points and nine boards, and Millie Black also pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Bears’ Amaya Fuentes finished with a team-high seven points.

Panther Valley-Palisades
Panther Valley staked itself to a double-digit halftime lead, and the Panthers went on to gain their first win of the season with a convincing 55-21 non-league victory over Palisades.
Morgan Orsulak scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the opening half as PV raced to a 34-11 advantage after two quarters.
Caroline Breslin added 14 points to the winning cause, while Lucy Kocha ended with 11.

Marian- Lake Lehman
Lake Lehman jumped out to a commanding halftime lead, and then coasted to a 51-19 non-league victory over Marian.
The Knights built a 20-6 advantage after the first quarter, and extended the margin to 41-13 by halftime.
Kindle Purdy led all scorers with 27 points for Lake Lehman, while Brooke Hannis-Miskar paced the Fillies with six.

Palmerton-PM East
Aiden Pierre scored a game-high 21 points to help Pocono Mountain East win its third straight game, defeating Palmerton 55-45 in non-league action.
Gaige McGowan had 15 points to pace the Blue Bombers, who were tied with the Cardinals at halftime.
Kurt Jedrejczyk chipped in with 12 point for Palmerton, which dropped its third straight.

Hamburg-Jim Thorpe
Hamburg rallied in the second half to edge Jim Thorpe, 49-48, in non-league play.
The Hawks trailed 32-19 at halftime, but nearly doubled-up the Olympians (30-16) in the second half.
Hamburg’s Andrew Arroyo had a team-high 18 points, while Jim Thorpe’s Pierce Gothard finished with a game-high 24 points.

BOYS WRESTLING
Sam Lovello Classic
Lehighton’s Asher Taylor earned the championship at 215 pounds, while a total of 15 area wrestlers came away from the Sam Lovello Classic with medals.
The Indians led the way among local teams with nine medalists. Connor Dugan (145) and Marc Macias (285) both reached their respective finals and finished second.
Lukas Croizier took fourth at 152, as did Preston DiGrazia at 189. Danny Edgar (133) and Carter Hontz (172) ended in fifth, while Ryder Croizier (121) and Evan Wentz (160) both placed sixth.
Northern Lehigh received a fourth-place finish from Noah Gosart at 114, while Mason Rothrock (160, fifth), Dawson Newhard (215, fifth), Andrew Rudolph (133, sixth) and Jaxon Bower (172, sixth) also medaled.
Panther Valley’s Carlos Maldonado-Rosa took sixth at 215.
Case-Flynn Duals
Palmerton participated in the Case-Lynn Duals at Pottsville and was able to record one win, a 38-34 victory over William Tennant.
The Blue Bombers dropped matches to Milton (41-30), Northern Lebanon (58-14), Radnor (51-21), Northern York (59-12) and host Pottsville (42-26).
Palmerton’s Landon Eckhart and Thomas Pasquariello both finished the duals with 5-1 records, with Pasquariello collecting two pins.
Connor Messinger turned in a mark of 4-2.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Dallastown Invitational
Palmerton returned home with two medalists from the Dallastown Invitational.
Cassidy Merkel earned a third-place medal in the 130 pound weight class, while Nickayla Tomsic grabbed a fifth-place finish at 148.
Central Dauphin gained the team title with 238 points, while the Blue Bombers posted a total of 60 points and finished 11th in the 20-team field.
SWIMMING
Saucon Valley-Tamaqua
Tamaqua and Saucon Valley earned a split in their weekend meet.
The Raider girls came out on top 100-42, while the boys dropped a 130-30 decision to the Panthers.
Savannah Wilson led the way for the Tamaqua girls, as she touched the wall first in both the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Wilson also swam a leg in the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay races.
Janna Brown (200 free), Audrey Nattress (100 fly), Shaylee Gormley (100 free) and Kate Behun (500 free) all added individual firsts, while all of them also were part of winning relay teams.
