Weissport approves tentative 2026 budget
Weissport Borough Council voted to approve the tentative 2026 budget and authorized that in be advertised for public comment. The new budget will not have a tax increase.
“After the 10-day period, you can then approve the budget at your next meeting,” Weissport Solicitor Gregory Mousseau advised Council.
The 2026 tentative budget includes $288,368.95 income and $266,019.48 in expenses.
The motion passed, and the budget will now be advertised. The final budget will be voted on at the next meeting, set for Dec. 15.
Weissport Emergency Management Official Joseph Flickinger advised council that he submitted a budget request to maintain certification according to PEMA directive 2022-02.
“I also spoke with the (Carbon) County EMA to try to get the G402 NIMS course for elected and appointed officials set up at the beginning of next year, so that individuals here get it so that the borough will be in NIMS compliance.”
Not being compliant could result in the borough losing grant funding.
Weissport Borough Councilman Bill Hartzell will get prices to purchase a pallet of salt needed for the borough streets.
“We have enough for this storm, but we will need more in order to take care of the streets,” Hartzell explained.
Borough Council voted to authorize Hartzell to spend up to $500 for a pallet of salt.
“It’s something we must have,” Councilman Andrew Hottenstein exclaimed. “We need to get that as soon as we can.”
Weissport Council voted to authorize up to $4,500 in repairs to the borough’s pickup truck. The cost includes an estimated $3,750 to replace the truck bed that has rusted through and is no longer safe. Repairs also include a front bumper, and front brakes and rotors.
