E. Penn hears homeless camp complaints

Frustration mounted at the East Penn Township Board of Supervisors meeting as residents requested updates regarding a homeless encampment on East Lizard Creek Road.

It has been three months since neighbors first raised the issue, and residents say they have yet to see results.

Megan Markulics, a neighboring resident, requested “an update about the squatters” from the board. “There is nothing being done,” she said.

She expressed frustration at the situation, saying that the board members “might think different if it was someone (defecating) in their yard.”

Troy Dugan, another neighbor, echoed Markulics’ sentiments.

“It’s been three months and nothing has been done,” Dugan said. He noted that the township has taken some administrative steps, stating that, according to his understanding, “a new zoning officer was appointed three weeks ago.”

Residents also brought forward concerns regarding potential development in the township.

Markulics raised objections to the construction “of a data center we do not want.” Dugan acknowledged that the building is only in the planning phases but wants to know “where it is being built at?”

In other township news, Supervisor William G. Schwab reported on his recent tour of the D&L Trail. Schwab surveyed the trail to identify potential areas of concern and reported that “we are in good shape.”

Tax Collector Kathy Henderson provided a brief update on township finances, reporting that tax collections “are doing well, all things considered.”

The supervisors unanimously adopted the 2026 budget “with no increase,” according to Supervisor Gary Kuehner.
