1st Responders Free Breakfast a success

The second annual First Responders Free Breakfast was marked by a tremendous turnout.

Held recently at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Palmerton, about 50 first responders were served, according to volunteer Carla Schmidt.

Schmidt said those who attended were treated to a hearty breakfast that consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, pancakes, waffles and Tater Tots. There was also coffee, orange juice, water and soda.

“We did this last year after the big fire on the mountain in November to express our appreciation for our first responders, and we decided to do this on an annual basis,” Schmidt said. “I believe the first responders appreciated us as much as we appreciated them.”

Schmidt said the event was open to Palmerton Area School District fire companies, Palmerton Ambulance, police and 911 dispatchers.

She added that Palmerton Ambulance had a busy morning, so Tim Reese and Tony Recker delivered platters to the station for them.

Schmidt said they are trying to come up with other free events for the community.

She noted they recently held a trunk or treat and handed out candy, hots dogs and hot cocoa free of charge.

Additionally, Schmidt said they give out free community meals on the second Tuesday of each month, except January and February.
