Palmerton gears up to ring in holiday season

The Palmerton Holiday Lighting committee is adding to the joy of this season.

A family of snowmen have joined Patches in the Clock Park to add to the community’s holiday spirit.

The lighting of the new decorations will take place on Saturday, at 4:45 p.m. (weather permitting), in coordination with the park tree lighting event. Committee member Dennis Behler was instrumental in turning the group’s vision into a reality.

Wizards of Wire LLC, a local company headed by Todd Merkel, was approached to manufacture the snow family.

“It is our mission to use the proceeds from the community support we have received from our annual Christmas in the Park event to continue to enhance Palmerton’s holiday lighting,” says committee Chairperson Michele O’Neill.

“We have been looking for ways to decorate the Clock Park for a while and felt this was a perfect solution giving families a place for photo opportunities as well as a welcome to our town’s Christmas celebrations.”

Additionally, angel wings will also be a new addition to the festivities. The wings will be placed in the vicinity of the Bandstand for another photo opportunity.

The Christmas in Palmerton event has been expanded this year to encompass more of the town.

House tours

The Concourse Club of Palmerton is holding its 2025 Holiday House Tour on Friday, from 5-9 p.m. The festive tour is one of the club’s most popular events. The event includes a tour of five local homes and a visit to the Hospitality Center, located in the fellowship hall of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Fifth Street and Lafayette Avenue.

This year, there are two houses and the Hospitality Center located on Lafayette Avenue in Palmerton proper. Three houses located outside of the borough are included in the tour. For the first time, ticket holders will be taken to the out-of-town homes by bus. There are four buses departing from in front of S.S. Palmer Elementary School.

When purchasing a ticket, a specific departure time was selected.

“As a club, we decided this was the best approach to control and provide safe access to these rural homes,” said committee Chairperson Teri Delich.

The first Holiday House Tour was held in 1976 to commemorate the bicentennial. It featured three private homes and St. John’s Towamensing Church. Over the years, 30 homes have been featured, including a log cabin, a farmhouse and four local churches.

The Concourse Club is a women’s civic organization proudly serving the community of Palmerton and surrounding Carbon County communities promoting interests in education, social welfare, governmental affairs and fine arts through community service, scholarships and fundraising activities.

Saturday’s events begin with a reading of “The Polar Express” at the Little White Church sponsored by the Palmerton Area Historical Society at 11 a.m.
