BHA students help set up trees for Christmas in the Park
A few extra hands readily assisted in setting up Christmas trees for Lehighton’s upcoming 10th annual Christmas in the Park event.
With the event less than two weeks away, the Lehighton Parks & Recreation Board worked with Behavioral Health Associate’s Packer Ridge Academy Tuesday morning.
Together, they were able to set up about 150 Christmas trees in the borough’s upper and lower parks in just 45 minutes time, said Tina Henninger, vice-chair, Lehighton Parks & Recreation Board.
“It was fabulous,” Henninger said. “We could not have done this without them.”
Nancy McCabe, student council adviser, NOVA at Packer Ridge Academy, said there were 30 students and six staff members who assisted.
“And they were so good,” McCabe said of the students. “They said they liked doing it and helping the community.”
McCabe noted their student council is also raising money for Trees for Troops program at Yenser’s Tree Farm in Mahoning Township.
“We definitely thank them (Lehighton Parks & Rec Board) for the opportunity of letting our students help,” she said. “They are also looking forward to taking it down and doing it again next year.”
Henninger returned the favor.
“It was so nice to have community involvement coming together to help celebrate our community,” she said.
Henninger praised Jeff Smith and the Lehighton Public Works Department, along with Barry Fisher and the Lehighton L & P Department for their assistance as well.
She also gave a special thanks to St. Luke’s Health Network for their donation to borough hall, which will also be decorated in time for the tree lighting event.
Lehighton’s 10th annual Christmas in the Park will be held in the upper and lower parks from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 7.
