Parryville to stop collecting two taxes

Parryville Borough unanimously voted Monday to eliminate the collection of the occupational tax and the per capita tax.

Nicole Beckett, borough administrator, stated that “collecting it costs more than what we get.”

The roughly $2,000 dollars collected annually “won’t impact the budget,” Beckett said.

In other matters, the borough approved a request from Palmerton Borough to provide fire police support for its “Christmas in the Park” event on Dec. 6.

A discussion about Parryville hosting its own Christmas event in the playground was postponed. President Jason Kurek Smith noted that such plans “should start in summer” and that there is not enough time to organize an event for this December. The council will look into planning one for next year.

Plans for winter fireworks, funded by the budget for Parryville’s 150th birthday, were discussed. All agreed it would be better to wait until Spring and host the display in conjunction with America’s 250th birthday celebration.

The borough’s new 2025 Ford F550 is scheduled to be picked up on Nov. 25. It will then receive an underbody rust-proofing treatment.

The Parryville Fire Company will host Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 7. He will arrive on a fire truck at 9 a.m. They are also hosting a Toy Bingo & Holiday Basket Social on Dec. 14
