Weatherly voters decide on council positions
Of the seven municipalities in Northern Carbon County, only one had a contested general election on Tuesday.
That was in Weatherly Borough, where six candidates sought four four-year terms on the borough council.
Otherwise, there were no contested races in East Side and Beaver Meadows boroughs, or Banks, Lausanne, Lehigh or Packer townships.
Weatherly
The winners in the boroughs balloting included Norman B. Richie, Jeffrey Miller, Greg Walters and Vincent A. Cuddeford II.
Richie topped the ballot with 344 votes and Miller was second with 341 votes; Walters tallied 339 votes to win the third spot; and the fourth seat went to Cuddeford with 301 votes.
Losing out were Susan Danenhower with 286 votes and Theresa D’Andrea with 204 votes.
Unopposed candidates on the borough’s ballot included Deborah A. Kohler, 507 votes for tax collector; Barbara J. Cunnius, 244 votes for judge of elections in the East District; and Virginia L. Houser, 302 votes for inspector of elections in the East District.
Banks Township
Only two names were on the Banks Township ballot.
Unopposed were William J. Nice, Democrat, who received 194 token votes for a term on the board of supervisors, and Antoinette “Tawnie” Porpiglia, who collected the same total of votes for tax collector.
Lausanne Township
Like Banks, only two candidates were seeking positions in Lausanne Township.
Unopposed were Edward Klynowsky, who received 41 votes for a term on the board of supervisors, and Melanie J. Zacharias, 26 votes for a term as tax collector.
Lehigh Township
The situation with Lehigh’s ballot was the same as that of Banks and Lausanne, as only two people ran in the township.
Unopposed were Terry D. Souder III, Republican, who collected 88 complimentary votes for a term on the board of supervisors, and Teresa M. Barna, who tallied 107 votes for tax collector.
Packer Township
Packer Township voters saw four names on the township ballot, and all four candidates were unchallenged.
Robert Selert received 242 token votes for a term on the board of supervisors; Valeria Kane, 324 votes for tax collector; Alicia Nyer, 310 votes for judge of elections; and Kristin Wilkinson, 292 votes for inspector of elections.
Beaver Meadows
There were no contests in Beaver Meadows this time around.
Michael B. Gerhard, Republican, received 131 complimentary votes for mayor, while three candidates for terms on the borough council also collected token votes: Robert J. Cryder III, 124 votes; Michael Baran, 104 votes; and Gerhard, 103 votes.
Also unchallenged were John Tranguch and Judith Tranguch, who received 162 votes and 159 votes, respectively, for judge of elections and inspector of elections, respectively.
East Side Borough
Unopposed candidates in East Side Borough included Eric Siglin, who received 49 votes for mayor; Sharon Mrozinski, 62 votes for borough council; and Lisa Jones, 70 votes for a four-year term as tax collector.
