Annual Veterans Day parade in Tamaqua set for Saturday morning
The Tamaqua American Legion C.H. Berry Post 173 annual Veterans Day parade will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Staging for the parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. on the 900 block of East Broad Street.
The 2025 Veterans Day Parade Grand Marshal is Sgt. George “Vince” Boyle Jr. of Tamaqua. Boyle is a 1962 graduate of Marian High School and enlisted in the Army that same year. A Vietnam-era veteran, he was stationed in Germany serving from 1962-65 and continued in the Army Reserve until 1968.
Boyle was employed for 40 years as a welder with Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company. He retired in 2013.
He was the husband of Kathryn (Semko) Boyle, who passed away in 2012. The couple had children George V. Boyle III and his wife, Annette, of Tamaqua; Michael Boyle and his wife, Heather, of Brockton; John Boyle and his wife, Vanessa, of Tamaqua; Damian Boyle and his wife, Angela, of New Ringgold; Vincent Boyle and his partner, Jarrod Yuskauskas, of New Ringgold; Theresa Ackerman and her husband, Thomas, of New Ringgold; Kathryn Orlick and her husband, Christopher, of New Ringgold; and Susan Kupres and her husband, Kevin, of New Ringgold.
He is also the grandfather of 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, including a granddaughter, Chloe Kupres, and a great-granddaughter, Brinley Boyle, both of whom will be accompanying him in the parade.
This year’s Veterans Day Poppy Queen is Isabelle Swartz, daughter of Kimberly and Ray Swartz of Tamaqua and the sister of Michael Pratka. She attends second grade at Tamaqua Elementary School and is a member of the Junior Auxiliary of the Tamaqua Legion.
The American Legion Honor Guard begins the parade with an honor volley at the Rahn Township War Memorial. The procession will then travel through Tamaqua along Route 209 South (Broad Street) and will include members of the American Legion Color and Honor guards; Tamaqua Area Marching Band; members of the Tamaqua Borough Council; 2025 Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce award winners; and several other local organizations and dignitaries.
All Tamaqua area businesses and organizations are welcome to participate, and veterans of the United States Armed Forces are especially encouraged to walk in the parade regardless of their membership status in the American Legion.
The public is asked to display their patriotism and show their support for veterans by attending the parade.
A brief public service led by Jack Kulp will be held outside the American Legion, 206 W. Broad St., after the parade. Refreshments will be provided.
In 2023, Tamaqua was selected by the Veterans Day National Committee as a regional site for Veterans Day commemoration. Only 66 sites were selected nationwide for their ongoing efforts within the community that support local veterans.
