Voter turnout solid Tuesday

Solid representation was observed throughout the region as voters took to the polls to voice their opinions in Tuesday’s General Election.

As they do annually, Terry and Christina Blocker of Lehighton came out to the Lehighton American Legion Post 314 around noon to do their public service.

“We vote every election,” Terry Blocker said. “If you don’t vote, you get what you get.”

Bernie Krebs, majority inspector, stated the voter turnout was impressive.

“We’ve had a good turnout for a local election; usually this time of year, it’s slow,” Krebs said. “I see lots of independents and nonaffiliated.”

Linda Stuckley, clerk, concurred.

“It’s very busy compared to other years,” Stuckley said. “Pretty quiet, very smooth.”

Over at Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Penn Township, volunteers were busy whipping up their annual spaghetti dinner.

The meal consisted of spaghetti, salad bar, rolls, beverage, and dessert.

A total of 400 homemade meatballs were made.

“Everybody enjoys it,” said Kurt Steigerwalt. “It’s a good opportunity to get together.”

Kathy Steigerwalt added it’s a joint venture between Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. John’s Mahoning Church.

“It’s great community outreach,” Kathy Steigerwalt said.
