Rotary Club puts shoppers in the Christmas spirit
The holiday season was in full swing at the Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company on Saturday as the Lehighton Rotary Club held its Annual Holiday Craft Festival.
“We have held a craft show for at least the last 15 years,” said Susan Lovejoy, past president and current vice president of the Lehighton Rotary Club. “We have held it at other locations; but, we have been here at the Franklin Township Fire Company for the past seven years.”
There were 15 vendors set up outside, and thirty-three inside. The crafts for sale included wooden door decorations for fall and Christmas, ceramics mugs and dishware, illuminated decorations such as festive lanterns and buildings, pet leashes and pet beds, hand-crocheted snowmen and Santas, and so much more.
“We have a magician here (Mark Mysterrio) who is walking among the people and also will hold a magic show, and we have Santa here for photographs,” Lovejoy added.
Miss Direction offered face painting for the children, and the fire company kitchen offered all kinds of delicious foods.
The Lehighton Rotary Club meets Mondays at the Beacon 443 Restaurant in Lehighton.
“Our motto is ‘Service above self’,” Lovejoy said. “To belong to the Rotary, you need to be someone who can come to the meetings, volunteer time, and have a generous personality.”
The Lehighton Rotary plans another craft show in March, and will be providing Christmas dinners and presents for the children for some families in need in the area.
“The money from this craft show and other fundraisers, we use for our projects,” Lovejoy explained. “We give scholarships to Lehighton seniors for ongoing education. We buy dictionaries for third graders in the Lehighton and Palmerton districts. We support groups such as the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) in Lehighton.”
