Tamaqua installing water lines

Tamaqua will have new water lines installed beneath several streets.

Jay Stidham, director of public works, told borough council recently that Wexcon Utility Contracting plans to begin the work sometime in November on behalf of the Tamaqua Water Autority.

“They’re going to start on Greenwood Street, so Greenwood will be closed for a time” likely in the vicinity of Miracle Ford and Arlington Street, he said.

When Greenwood Street work is complete, the contractor will work on Cottage Avenue in the vicinity of the M&T Bank and South Railroad Street.

As the start dates approach, Stidham said the borough will alert businesses and residents.

In other business, council:

• Approved a handicapped parking application for 322 Pine St.

• Hired Damian Flexer to a position at the wastewater treatment plant at a rate of $27 per hour.

• Were advised that a pre-construction meeting will be held this week for the paving of Lafayette Street and Hegarty and Glenwood avenues.
