Towamensing Township supervisors discussed the following items during their recent meeting:
• The township historical commission requested sending a letter out, possibly with garbage bills, to bring people up-to-date with what’s happening at the school house.
The outside has been completed. They are hoping to move to the interior and are open to suggestions about how to use the building. Historical documents were discovered in the attic and they are trying to get them in some kind of order.
Don Bonnet, chair of the committee, said, “We’re hoping the township will find it as an asset and maybe have an open house for the 250-year celebration of the country.”
• Sunrise Lehighton Group/Lakeside Self Storage Development Agreement, Stormwater Operation and Maintenance Agreement and Site Improvement Bond was approved pending the resolution of the Site Improvement Bond. The property is located at 10 Homestead Road.
• After opening bids for diesel, heating oil and road materials, the board decided that this would be tabled due to a potential issue with the paperwork.
Engineer Greg Haas will take a look at the bids and report back at the next board meeting.
• Supervisors accepted the resignation of part-time Clerk Penny Merkel, effective Sept. 29.
