Waldorf celebrates 20 years of fear
20 Years of Fear.
That’s how long Waldorf Estate of Fear in Lehighton has served as Pennsylvania’s premiere haunted attraction event.
To mark its milestone, an opening night celebration will be held Saturday at 6325 Interchange Road.
At 5 p.m., Warrington Gillette, who starred as Jason in “Friday the 13th Part 2,” will be on hand. There will be a VIP bloody social, for which tickets must be purchased by 6 p.m. Friday.
Horror 365 is hosting a VIP event, tickets available on the website, which will include a live show and Q&A with Gillette.
From there, a ribbon cutting will follow at 7 p.m.
It’s been two decades that Angie and Dean Moyer initially opened their haunt.
Originally, The Waldorf began in the building that now houses Little Bombers Day Care in Palmerton.
As the business continued to grow, there became a need to expand, so 13 years ago they moved the business to its current location in Lehighton.
“We were limited in Palmerton,” Angie said. “Here, we can do more.”
Angie noted that Country Junction owns the property of the haunted attraction in Lehighton.
“I said I could make a really neat Haunted House,” she said. “We started up with a hayride.”
When COVID hit in 2020, Angie said they turned it into a walking trail.
“New sets, new scenes, more screams,” Angie said. “Today’s kids are not scared of anything, so we needed to add more elements to make it more interactive.”
Waldorf Estate of Fear is also the set of the series Hell House LLC.
Angie said they currently have over 70 actors, and quipped that people just think it’s a Haunted House, when in fact there’s actually four attractions.
Within the Waldorf Estate of Fear are the The Haunting at the Waldorf Hotel, Terror in the Corn, Infection, and the brand-new Grimville Slaughterhouse.
“We have full families that come and haunt together,” Angie said. “It’s very family-oriented.
“I always say these (the actors) are my children,” she said. “I’m always trying to teach the younger generation accountability and responsibility, so that they can grow up to be respectful adults.”
Angie said they offer a Friday Night Fright discount to families who reside in the Palmerton, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Pleasant Valley and Northern Lehigh school districts.
Dean said it’s hard to believe all that has been accomplished.
“All we’ve done in 13 years, it’s amazing,” Dean said. “We’re a top-notch, professional haunted house.”
