In partnership with St. Luke’s University Health Network and the Pennsylvania State Police, Blue Mountain Resort hosted its fourth annual Community Day on Sunday. The family event was focused on health, safety and community involvement.

Attendees included medical professionals from St. Luke’s, state Fish and Boat Commission officers and those with the Game Commission, representatives from several fire companies, ambulance drivers, state police and members of the Carbon County Chamber & Economic Development Corporation.

Families and other event attendees saw emergency vehicles, met local first responders and community health partners, and participated in activities on the mountain.

Tickets were available for laser tag, high ropes course, rock climbing and zip lines.

The annual VIP Zip Line Race took place at noon. There were four teams: St. Luke’s; Blue Mountain; regional first responders; and community members.

The four teams raced down the zip line with cups of water, attempting to fill buckets at the end.

Micah Gursky, director of development at St. Luke’s, said events like these strengthen our communities and promote healthy outdoor activities year-round.

“Blue Mountain is a year-round venue, and St. Luke’s wants to help our community members stay active and healthy,” Gursky said. “Part of that relationship led to us co-hosting community days here twice a year.

“Blue Mountain graciously donates passes to the rope course, zip line, and laser tag in the warmer months, and snow tubing passes in the winter months.”

State Trooper Ryan Seiple, director of community affairs, agreed with Gursky that events like this can strengthen communities.

“Events like these are a great way for families and other community members to have positive memories of first responders,” Seiple said. “Seeing us enjoy events like this humanizes police officers and other first responders.

“We are beyond thankful to Blue Mountain for providing this space.”.

Blue Mountain Resort General Manager Jim Dailey said that he and his staff enjoy getting involved with community day.

“We loved the idea of the event immediately,” Dailey said. “From the first responders to medical professionals to educators from five school districts, to those in attendance from the Carbon Chamber, these great people could use a break and a fun time together. That’s what community day is all about.

“We started community day in the winter season with snow tubing. From there, we wanted to do something in the ‘green season’ as well. These events help strengthen our community and relationships with first responders and other people who help save lives.”
