Singers are invited to join annual Ecumenical Cantata

As autumn approaches, preparations are already underway for the Christmas season.

This year’s annual Ecumenical Cantata will feature “His Name is Jesus” by Dennis and Nan Allen, to be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Lehighton.

This cantata, last performed in 2019, was originally gifted to the church by the 2018 cantata participants. Additional funding for its purchase was generously provided through memorial contributions in memory of Shirley Wentz, Judy Harris, Carol Larose and Paul R. Smith.

The ecumenical choir brings together singers from across Carbon County and beyond, representing many Christian denominations, as well as individuals without church affiliation. All students in ninth-grade and older, along with adults of all ages, are warmly invited to participate. No prior experience is required — only a love of singing and a willingness to share in this joyful musical celebration.

The cantata will be accompanied by the Zion Festival Orchestra and will also feature an additional anthem (to be announced).

“His Name is Jesus” combines a rich blend of contemporary and traditional Christmas music, including: “Joy to the World! The Lord Is Come” with “O Come, All Ye Faithful”; “What Did You Say Was the Baby’s Name?”; “And His Name”; “Emmanuel”; “He Knows My Name”; “Say the Name”; “Jesus Is the Sweetest Name I Know”; “Your Name”; finale: “What Did You Say Was the Baby’s Name?” with “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.”

The narration is especially moving and provides a meaningful complement to the music.
