Don Laine Campground celebrates 45th anniversary

A local favorite encampment recently celebrated a milestone.

Don Laine Campground, 790 57 Drive, Palmerton, commemorated its 45th anniversary with an event on Sept. 6.

Stacy Burnett, manager, said the family-owned business observed the occasion complete with a DJ, food, shirt giveaways and other giveaways.

“We had a good turnout,” Burnett said. “It was to celebrate the fact that we made it to 45 years.”

Burnett noted that the campground was started by her parents, Donald and Elaine George, in 1980.

Other family members include Burnett’s brother, Shawn George; husband, Sloan Burnett; son, Tanner Burnett; nephews, Mason George and Cole George; as well as employees, Bobbi Shupp, Kyle Strohl and Rosie Winton.

“This was my great grandmother’s farm,” Stacy Burnett said. “They had a riding stable here, always wanted to open a campground, and started to build it.”

Burnett said the campground has 60 weekend sites, 100-plus seasonals.

“We’ve grown,” said Burnett, who noted the campground has over time added more sites, a pool, snack bard, playground and pickleball court. “We have a lot of repeat customers who say it’s quiet, a beautiful view; we get lots of compliments on how well-maintained it is.”

Burnett said the majority of their campers live within a 50-mile radius, many of whom are repeat customers.

“They like that there’s lots of activities, bands. They come for the music, atmosphere, family-oriented,” she said. “There are still a lot of people that like to just camp, just relax, sit by a campfire.”

Burnett said anyone interested in booking a campsite may call 610-381-3381, email them at dlaine@ptd.net, or visit their website at www.donlaine.com.

She said they do not do online reservations.
