Lewistown Garden Club
The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its August meeting on Aug. 26 with an informative program on beekeeping presented by Robert Reed.
This month’s meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Zion Church social hall in Lewistown Valley. This will be the annual tea, and the program will be presented by BeeZ Floral.
Members are asked to check their membership booklets for details.

Calvary Lewistown
Pastor Debra Rogers will bring a message of faith in Jesus Christ at the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Calvary Evangelical Church in Lewistown. There will be testimonies of praise and a time for prayer requests. Congregational singing and special music will be featured. All are welcome. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:45 a.m. There will be no Sunday evening service this week.
The 7 p.m. Wednesday service is a time of care, share, prayer and scripture for everyone.
The annual Sunday School Rally Day will be held beginning at 11 a.m. Oct. 12 with puppets, music and Biblical content. The 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 service will feature a concert by Jared and Katie Wehry. Jared is the “instrument playing” son of the former Wehry Family Gospel Singers. All are welcome.
St. Peter’s - West Penn
The 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn Township will be held outdoors, weather permitting, and will include the blessing of animals. Sunday school is at 10:15 a.m. A fellowship dinner and basket raffle will be held at 10:30 a.m.
On Sept. 26, the Cherub Choir rehearses at 6 p.m. and the Senior Choir rehearses at 7 p.m.
Tamaqua Seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Sept. 11 with 20 members present.
President Jean Machamer opened the meeting with the invocation, “He Lights My Way.” The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
One member was added to the sick list. A moment of silence was held for 9/11, school shootings and Charlie Kirk.
Refreshments were served. The meeting closed and bingo and cards were played.
The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Coaldale Complex.
Rush-Ryan-Delano Seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens met on Sept. 9 with 34 members present.
President Robert Neifert opened the meeting with the invocation, “Gratefulness.”
Irene Sweigert and Larry Bower were added to the sick list. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
Dolores Walck won a wooden pumpkin that was donated by Shirley Kaiser and chanced off.
A fall picture donated by Carol Sedlock was won by Shirley Kaiser.
Members celebrating birthdays in September include Ruth Ann Feane, Roberta Hollenbach, Joyce Krell, Kim Uslis, Debbie Kerestus and Betty Brobst.
Fred and Sherry Herb are celebrating their 60th anniversary. Bill and Cindy Godanis are also celebrating their anniversary this month.
The Herbs donated food, including fruit salad, baked beans and chips.
The meeting closed, bingo was played and refreshments were served.
The next meeting will be held on Sept. 23 at Christ Church.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.
The next episode of “The Chosen” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday at the social hall.
Rummage sale
St. John UCC, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Oct. 4 and from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 6.
The church will have clothing in all sizes, including women’s and men’s XX large, household items, toys, books, small appliances, decorations and more.
No reasonable offers will be refused.
Trick or treat in Tamaqua
Trick-or-treating in the Borough of Tamaqua will be held from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 25.
