Mahoning plans solar farm hearing Oct. 28

Another solar farm has been proposed for property in Mahoning Township.

Supervisors last week agreed to advertise a conditional use hearing for 6 p.m. Oct. 28 for a 40-acre property along the west side of Fredericks Grove Road, zoned R-1 Agricultural Rural.

The applicant is Fredericks Grove Road Solar, P.O. Box 1320 Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

In February, supervisors approved a solar farm following a conditional use hearing.

That came after supervisors held a conditional use hearing that was continued from Jan. 8.

The applicants were Solar Renewable Energy LLC and Ashtown Road Solar Partners LLC.

They sought conditional use approval to use properties located along Ashtown Drive tax parcels 84-35-A2 and 84-35-A2-05 for solar generation commercial.

The subject premise is zoned I-1 Research and Development and Industrial.

A section of the zoning ordinance “Solar power generation commercial” is permitted in the I-1 Research and Development and Industrial District as a conditional use.

Ultimately, supervisors granted conditional use approval.

In December, the township held a conditional use hearing for a solar farm request after Solar Renewable Energy and Ashtown Road Solar Partners applied for a request for a conditional use.

Melo Enterprises LLC requested and Leon A. George II and Danielle M. George filed for permits for property located on Ashtown Drive in an I-1 Research and Development and Industrial zoning district.
