Saturday movie

On Saturday, St. Matthew’s EC Church, Kunkletown, is hosting a family movie afternoon from 3-5 p.m.

“WALL-E,” a story “full of fun, adventure, and meaningful lessons about caring for God’s creation and one another,” will be shown.

C’hill Historical

The next meeting of the Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building in Brodheadsville.

It will be a time of reminiscing based on “interesting” folks from one’s childhood.

Who remembers the Kishbaugh siblings of McMichaels, or the owners of the Brodheadsville store on Route 115-209?

Flea market

Farmers market

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, is hosting a farmers market from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

New vendors are welcome and can apply at Brodheadsvillefarmersmarket@gmail.com.

The next farmers market for the season will be on Oct. 18.

Religious education

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will begin its religious education Sunday at 9 a.m., following the 8 a.m. Mass, beginning around 9 a.m.

Preparation for first Holy Communion parent meeting is at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran Church’s Knit & Crochet group will be busy making stitches of caring and help Tuesday, beginning at 1 p.m. Newcomers are welcome.

Grief support

St. Luke’s Hospice Bereavement Program is available in the form of virtual 90-minutes workshops. The next session are from 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and Oct. 8, or from 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

‘Precious junk’

Zion Lutheran Church is hosting a “Precious Junk” sale Sept. 26 and 27.

Doors open at 10 a.m. and close at 2 p.m.

Items available include: housewares, holiday decor, books, cookware, hobby items, jewelry, artwork, toys and games.

Hot dogs, coffee, cold drinks and chips will be available for sale. Funds raised support the ministries of Zion.

Hawk Mountain trip

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is offering a trip to Hawk Mountain in Kempton on Sept. 26. Activities will include birdwatching, hiking, exploring the scenic mountain trails and learning about raptors in their natural habitat. The bus will depart the center at 8 a.m. and return by 3 p.m. Participants should pack binoculars, a lunch and something to drink.

Preregistration and payment in advance are required. For costs and other information, and to register, call the center at 570-629-3061.

Dumpling sale

The Willing Workers of Zion Lutheran Church are holding an apple dumpling sale through Sept. 28. The dumplings are individually packaged and ready to pop in the oven.

Order pickup is set for 3-6 p.m. Oct. 9.

Needed items

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, is collecting socks, gloves, hats, canned food with peel-off lids, men’s boots, women’s boots, personal hygiene items and gas cards for its Bridge Ministries with the homeless on Oct. 4.

Environmental Day

Polk Township has created an Environmental Day to be celebrated Oct. 5, beginning at 11 a.m.

It will include food, music, a pumpkin patch, face painting, kid’s crafts, a petting zoo and cider pressing.

The event at Polk Township Walking Park in Kresgeville is scheduled to be held rain or shine.

2 sales set

St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effort is holding a rummage and bake sale from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11.

Items available will depend on donations but likely include clothing for ladies, men and children, shoes, coats, household goods, dishes, books, toys, jewelry, knickknacks, etc.

The kitchen will be open for lunch, and baked goods will also be sold.
