Lehigh to hire firm to vet candidates

Lehigh Township police Sgt. John Henry told the supervisors last week that the department had two candidates for patrol officer positions and recommended hiring DBM Investigations LLC to conduct background checks.

“If we do it in-house, it takes too many hours away from patrol and the mandated two officers on each shift. That means overtime,” said Henry, who was named acting officer in charge after Scott Fogel resigned as chief last month amid public scrutiny and a $1.75 million lawsuit.

The supervisors agreed to hire DBM Investigations at a cost of $650 per candidate for information gathering; $375 per candidate for a polygraph; plus mileage at 70 cents per mile.

Henry also reported that township police handled 424 calls and made 12 adult arrests in August.

He also reminded residents that Route 873 will be closed to northbound and southbound traffic beginning at 8 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday for bridge work.
