2 people freed from wreckage in West Penn

Two people were injured Friday night in a crash in West Penn Township.

The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. along Route 443 at the intersection with Spring Road.

Emergency personnel found a sport utility vehicle with its front end in a storm culvert. Two occupants were trapped inside.

Members of the West Penn Fire Company, Tamaqua Rescue Squad and police worked to extricate the two from the wreckage.

The two were treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a nearby trauma center.

Fire police from West Penn maintained traffic control at the scene, shutting down the roadway. West Penn police are investigating.
