The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today that Route 22 east and west will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday for overhead bridge work.
The closure will allow for the safe removal of the Farmersville Road bridge over Route 22 in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County.
During the closure, Route 22 traffic will be detoured onto Route 191, Newburg Road, Country Club Road, Hecktown Road and Route 33. Motorists are advised to expect delays and use caution traveling the detour route.
The work is part of a project that began in October 2024 to replace the Farmersville Road bridge over Route 22.
H&K Group Inc., of Skippack, is the general contractor on this $4,671,385 project. All work is expected to be completed in October 2026.
The Farmersville Road bridge was constructed in 1954. It is a single-span concrete structure that is 95 feet long and 35 feet, 6 inches wide. It is posted with a 14 feet height clearance.
The new bridge will be a two-span prestressed concrete, 180 feet long and 33 feet, 4 inches wide structure. It will have 16 feet, 6 inches of height clearance.
This section of Farmersville Road has an average daily traffic volume of 548 vehicles.
