Calvary Lewistown

Calvary Evangelical’s congregation will have their fall “comeback” to the red brick church at 824 Catawissa Road, Tamaqua on Sunday.

Pastor Debra Rogers will conduct the 11 a.m. service and bring a message of hope in Jesus Christ. There will be testimonies of praise and a time for prayer requests in the service. Congregational singing and special music will be included. Sunday school for all ages is at 9:45 a.m., and the Sunday evening service is at 6:30 p.m.

The Wednesday prayer gathering with prayer, share, care and scripture is at 7 p.m. at the church. All are invited to all services.

St. Peter’s — West Penn

The 9 a.m. Sunday worship service at St. Peter’s Church in West Penn will have the Sacrament of Holy Communion. It is also Rally Day. Adult Sunday school and a Sunday school reorganization meeting will be held at 10:15 a.m.

The October newsletter deadline is Tuesday. The Prayer Group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, and retirees meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. On Sept. 11, the Cherub Choir rehearses at 6 p.m., and the Senior Choir rehearses at 7 p.m.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Aug. 28 with 26 members present.

President Jean Machamer opened the meeting. The invocation, “I Come to Thee,” was read.

One member made biscotti for all members. It was announced that renovations to the Moose building in Tamaqua, which will serve as a police station and community center, should begin by the end of October by Reading contractors.

The majority of members voted to hold the Christmas party on Nov. 20 with catering by Hess Catering.

Refreshments were served. After Thanksgiving, there will be brown bag lunches. The meeting closed and bingo and cards were played.

The seniors hoped all had a happy and safe Labor Day.

The group meets Thursdays at 1 p.m. from the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.

Andreas VFW

The Andreas VFW will meet at West Penn Park at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The VFW banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 13 at Knepper’s Inn. Reservations only. It is for members and one guest. Call 570-386-2133.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Communion will be included during the service.

Both the children’s and adult Sunday schools are scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

The movie, “One Night With the King,” will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday in the social hall.

County Fair Luncheon

A County Fair Luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 10 Hollenbush Lane, Orwigsburg.

Marge Monahan of Horseshoe, North Carolina, will speak about “From Broken to Overflowing Heart.” Music will be provided by Teresa Heller of Pine Grove. A county fair feature will be included.

The event is sponsored by the Schuylkill Women’s Connection.
