Man jumps out of ambulance, taken into custody

Police from numerous Carbon County communities responded to Lehighton this afternoon after a patient jumped from an ambulance he was being transported in and ran off.

The incident began just after 2 p.m. when an ambulance crew reported their patient broke free and jumped from their rig near the intersection of Ninth and Mahoning streets.

The man fled southeast and was later reported to be trying to enter a home along South Eighth street near Iron Street. Within minutes police had the man in custody.

Police from Lehighton, Palmerton, Mahoning and Franklin townships responded to the scene.

It was reported the man was being transported to a behavioral health facility.
