JT’s 1983 team won league title

The 1983 Jim Thorpe baseball team was the first team in school history to win a Schuylkill League championship.

The team also won the Schuylkill League North Division with a 6-2 win over Bishop Hafey.

The team was coached by the legendary David Malkin and assisted by Sid Llera.

Team members included Tony Pompa, Bill Keegan, Leo Bott, Dave Zurn, Dave Steidle, Frank Dennis, Brian Snyder, Gary Heydt, Ted LaRizzio, Jim Miller, Scott Kmetz, Paul Toro, Rich Mika, Tony Roos, Bruce Howard, Scott Miller, Eric Everett and Joe Steber.

Managers werer Alexa (Bach) Cataldo and Tanya (May) Lynn.

The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame recently announced its Class of 2025.

The 33rd class of inductees include the 1983 Schuylkill League championship baseball team, Samuel Hydro, Ethan Mordaunt, Jarrin Geisinger, Dylan Dailey and Jonathan Lilly.

The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 in the commons section of the Jim Thorpe High School starting at 1 p.m.
