Monroe woman charged in Ross drug death

A Stroudsburg woman faces involuntary manslaughter and drug-related charges after police say she sold drugs to a Monroe County woman who later died.

Callie Lauren Godfrey, 32, of Rainbow Drive, was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton on Monday in connection with the 2023 drug related death in Ross Township.

According to the affidavit filed by troopers, state police were dispatched at approximately 3:11 a.m. on Oct. 15, 2023, to a home along Kunkletown Road to assist EMS with an unresponsive 42-year-old woman.

Upon arrival, Lehigh Valley Health Network EMS and troopers found the women dead in a bedroom. Troopers knew the victim’s history of substance use and executed a search warrant.

The search found a piece of aluminum foil in the victim’s left hand as well as more foil and drug residue under the victim.

Later that day, an autopsy was conducted and the manner of death was due to a mixed drug toxicity related to fentanyl, gabapentin and xylazine.

On Oct. 17, 2023, a forensic download of the victim’s cellphone was completed. The phone report noted conversations between the victim and Godfrey regarding drug transactions.

There was also one message from Godfrey to the victim that occurred after the victim had already died regarding the price for drugs she had left to sell and the amount the victim still owed.

On Nov. 1, 2023, troopers executed a search warrant on the victim’s Facebook account and found messages between Godfrey and the victim the day before the overdose.

On Oct. 25, 2024, troopers interviewed Godfrey, who told them she had been best friends with the victim. She also confirmed that the victim came to her house on Oct. 14, 2023 to pick up heroin/fentanyl bags.

Godfrey was arraigned before District Judge Richard P. White and was taken to Monroe County Correctional Facility after bail was denied.

In addition to the involuntary manslaughter charge, which carries a misdemeanor one grade; Godfrey faces felony charges of drug delivery resulting in death; manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; and criminal use of communication facility.

A preliminary hearing before District Judge Colleen Mancuso has been scheduled for Aug. 21.
