Furey elected to Catholic Association board
Larry Furey, a native of Lansford and a proud graduate of Marian High School in Tamaqua, has been elected to the board of directors of the National Catholic Educational Association, the largest private professional education association in the world.
NCEA represents nearly 140,000 educators serving 1.6 million students in Catholic schools across the United States.
Furey brings over 35 years of leadership in Catholic education and advancement, beginning with his first role at his alma mater, Marian, in 1990. He went on to serve as vice president of advancement at Catholic Charities in Boston and later as assistant head of school for advancement at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, Massachusetts, for 18 years.
In 2006, he founded Partners in Mission, a Catholic school consulting firm based in Naples, Florida, where he served as CEO until its sale in 2024. He remains deeply involved in Catholic education through his leadership roles on numerous school boards and advancement committees around the country.
“This is the honor of a lifetime and the pinnacle of my 35-year journey in Catholic education — one that began at my beloved alma mater, Marian Catholic High School, in Tamaqua,” Furey said. “With deep gratitude and humility, I share that I have been elected to the NCEA board of directors. To now serve an organization that represents nearly 140,000 educators and 1.6 million students is both humbling and inspiring. I am especially grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with NCEA Board Chairman Archbishop Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv., of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, NCEA President/CEO Dr. Steven F. Cheeseman, and so many dedicated leaders in advancing the mission of Catholic education.”
Furey serves as vice chair of the board of directors at Marian High School and chairs its advancement committee. He also serves on advisory boards at Catholic high schools in Massachusetts and Florida, and has been involved with the Association of Catholic Advancement and Admissions Professionals of New England for over 25 years.
NCEA announced its newest board members for the 2026 fiscal year, including Furey, Ricky Austin of the Aim Higher Foundation in Minnesota, and Anne McCrory, a legal executive from Connecticut.
