State police at Lehighton - crashes
State police at the Lehighton barracks reported the following crashes:
• Gavin J. Taschler, 19, of Palmerton, was injured in a motorcycle crash at 11:48 p.m. Aug. 2 on Interchange Road in Towamensing Township.
Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to a landing zone, where he was then taken by helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township, for what police termed a “possible head injury.”
They said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The crash occurred when he was southbound and the cycle, a 2007 Kawasaki, dropped to its left side and slide about 80 feet before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the road.
Police said Taschler slid with the cycle until being thrown, at which time he came to rest about 30 feet from where the cycle landed.
Police said the motorcycle was removed from the scene.
• A 35-year-old Tamaqua woman is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 11:25 p.m. Aug. 3 on the Thomas J. McCall Memorial Bridge in Lehighton.
Police said she was driving a 2004 Acura eastbound when she lost control of it and the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, striking a barrier wall.
Police said she tried to overcorrect the direction, at which point the Acura traveled across the westbound lane and struck a second barrier wall.
• Joel R. Hottenstein, 19, of Palmerton, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:56 a.m. July 30 on West Lizard Creek Road, East Penn Township.
Police said he was driving a 2017 Ford Fusion that struck a deer that had entered the roadway.
The car had minor damage, police said.
