Carbon County Fair closes today

Fairgoers still have one more crack at being a part of the 26th annual Carbon Carbon Fair, which wraps up today at the fairgrounds along Little Gap Road in Palmerton.

The fair ends its six-day run, but not before visitors get one last chance to be a part of the popular attraction known for its agriculture, food and entertainment.

Among today’s highlights are a quilt that will be auctioned off during the Livestock Sale at 1 p.m. in the Showmen’s Ring. The quilt will be raffled off sometime thereafter.

Kristin Simmons, who last year served as still exhibit coordinator, said she followed through with the quilt, and noted it features nine blocks, with last year’s theme being Fall Harvest.

“Members of the community made these blocks and exhibited them at last year’s fair,” Simmons said. “They were very creative blocks; I took those blocks and sewed them together to make a wall hanging or a throw.”

The quilt was custom quilted by Deb Sandor, of Bath.

She said the proceeds will benefit the fair’s Youth Department to help offset the costs of their ribbons and premium money.

Larry Disalvi will perform at 3:30 p.m., and Suns of Beaches Band (a Jimmy Buffett tribute band) at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.

There will be a Garden Tractor Pull at 3 p.m. Emerald Dragon Karate will hold a demonstration at 6 p.m. Buster the Clown will also be on hand.

Malinda Fox, fair president, said there are still a lot of prizes (over 300) to be given out at the fair’s Chance Auction, and noted the final tickets will be sold at around 8 p.m., with the drawing to begin shortly thereafter.

Fox said that while the week’s gone quick, it’s been “a great week.”

“We’re very thankful that we’ve been blessed with the weather,” Fox said. “Our attendance, the numbers have been up, patrons have been coming out and enjoying the weather and enjoying the fair.”

The fair will be open today from 2-10 p.m. The cost of admission is $7 for everyone age 6 years and older.

The fair kicked off on Monday and got underway with its opening ceremony which included the crowning of the new Carbon County Fair Queen, Weatherly Area High School graduate Eva Eroh, and her court. The event also included the crowning of Lexi Seiple as the 2025 Junior Miss, and award presentations to James Andreas, Maria Burits and Bonnie Myers as Volunteers of the Year, and Dean R Ahner & Associates as Friend of the Fair. There was also a bench dedication in memory of longtime volunteer Betty Silliman. Pyro Joe ended the evening with fireworks.

Fox said the fair is in need of volunteers for tear down, and that anyone interested may contact her at 484-629-0242.
