Strohl steals the show in Modified race

Mahoning Valley Speedway once again delivered high drama and tight racing during the latest round of the Doug Hoffman Modified Poker Series on Saturday night.

Modifieds

Brian DeFebo led the field to green in the headlining Modified feature, but Tyler Wagner charged past on Lap 4. DeFebo didn’t back down, with Earl Paules and a hard-charging Jacob Kerstetter keeping the front of the pack tight early on. Kerstetter, working the inside groove, cracked the top five by Lap 16.

A yellow on Lap 17 for a Rod Snyder spin in Turn 4 bunched up the field. On the restart, DeFebo held the lead with Lou Strohl and Paules in pursuit. Another caution on Lap 20 — this time for a Jaden Brown spin — set up a double-file restart and opened the door for Kyle Strohl.

Strohl, who started eighth, began slicing through the field. By Lap 25, he was up to second. Just two laps later, he rocketed into the lead.

A late caution on Lap 31, following contact between Wagner and Brown, reset the field again. Strohl wasted no time pulling away. Lou Strohl and Kerstetter battled fiercely for second, while Snyder rallied back into the top five. Nick Baer also mounted a late charge, passing DeFebo for fifth.

The final caution came on Lap 41 when Wagner’s right rear tire gave out on the frontstretch. On the last restart, Strohl surged ahead and never looked back. Kerstetter edged Lou Strohl for second, with Snyder and Baer completing the top five.

Street Stocks

Frankie Althouse started on the pole and led flag-to-flag in a commanding Street Stock win.

Cody Geist, the points leader, was shuffled high early and retired by Lap 10. Meanwhile, last week’s winner, Brandon Christman, charged from 12th into the top eight by Lap 8. By halfway, Jon Moser and Adam Steigerwalt were battling for third, with Christman, Rich Reichenbach, and Jill Snyder close behind.

The race settled in after Lap 20, but the top three remained tight. With 10 laps to go, lapped traffic brought Randy Ahner into contention. He closed the gap on Althouse and challenged in the final circuits, but Althouse held firm for the win. Ahner finished second, followed by Steigerwalt, Moser, and Christman.

TQ Midgets

Kyle Taraska started on the pole with Jasper Ziegafuse alongside, but it was Josh Patterson who jumped to the lead on Lap 1. Wagner quickly gave chase and passed Patterson on Lap 7, navigating lapped traffic with ease.

A caution on Lap 12 for a Bill Force spin set up a late restart. Wagner held strong, but a dramatic moment came on Lap 16 when Richie Tolerico flipped onto his roof. Thankfully, he walked away from the incident.

Wagner led the final restart to take the win. Patterson finished second, followed by a strong run from Lexi Przybylinski. Taraska held on for fourth, with Ziegafuse rounding out the top five.

Hobby Stocks

A shakeup in the lineup put James Tout and rookie JR Merkel on the front row, but it was Shayne Geist who surged to the front, taking the lead by Lap 7.

Travis Solomon went door-to-door with Tout and Dave Kerr in a tight battle. A Lap 10 caution for BJ Wambold’s spin slowed the pace, followed by another on Lap 14 when contact between Maggie Wambold and Jeremy Henry damaged Maggie’s car.

The next restart was short-lived, as BJ Wambold and Tout made hard contact — Wambold was disqualified, and Tout was unable to continue.

Geist led the rest of the way, holding off heavy pressure from Solomon, who tried everything in the closing laps. Geist stayed steady to claim the win, followed by Solomon, Kerr, Merkel, and Jeremy Henry.

Pro 4s

Bob Kibler jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on brother Jake Kibler’s bobble in Turn 1. Jake slipped to fifth, while Cody Kohler — starting last — surged into third.

By Lap 14, the front battle intensified as Bobby Kibler Jr. moved inside of Bob Kibler to take the lead after several laps of bumper-to-bumper racing. A caution one lap later for contact between Jeremy Guerra and Ian Szalku set up a single-file restart.

On the final green flag run, Bobby Kibler Jr. pulled away for his fifth win of the season. Jake Kibler and Kohler rounded out the podium.

Antique TQ

Mallory Kutz led from the green and never looked back, pacing the field ahead of Bud Routzahn and Mark Czerwinski in a clean, caution-free sprint.
