Historical Society gets grant for Weissport bash

The Jacob’s Weissport Historical Society has been busy planning a spectacular event next Fourth of July in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America.

Dr. Keith “Jake” Boyer applied for and received a grant in the amount of $5,000 from America250PA.

“This grant will enable us to make this a historical event, and a great birthday party for the USA!” Dr. Boyer exclaimed.

Plans for Weissport include a parade and a celebration at the Weissport Borough Park on July 4, 2026.

“This event is an officially recognized event by the America250PA organization,” Boyer said.

He expressed thanks to Christian Cassidy-Amstutz, strategic initiatives and grants manager, America250PA; Cassandra Coleman, executive director, America250PA; Weissport Borough Council; and the Lehighton Area School District.

“I plan to utilize local talent,” Boyer said. “We will have the Lehighton (High School) band, actors portraying George and Martha Washington, and Benjamin Franklin, just to name a few.”

Jacob’s Weissport Historical Society was one of 42 organizations and businesses around the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to receive part of the $490,000 in grants during a second round of applications.

The semiquincentennial grants are intended to create, uplift, improve and expand programming, projects and events from eligible Pennsylvania communities and organizations in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Anyone wishing to take part in the Weissport event can contact Boyer at 610-751-6634 or email jboyer716@gmail.com.
