Meet the artists

Folks are invited to come to the Art Gallery at Kettle Creek from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday to meet artists from the Pocono Mountains Art Group, according to the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

The display of work will be at the gallery through Aug. 29. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and will be open Saturdays on Aug. 2 and 9, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Adoration helpers

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, is reaching out for help with the Adoration this coming Friday and Saturday.

Bingo night

The West End Memorial American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert, will host its regular Monday night bingo beginning at 7 p.m. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m.

There will be game specials, and the full bar and kitchen are to be available.

AA meetings

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, hosts AA meeting on Monday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

McMichaels UMC hosts meetings at 4 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 p.m. Saturdays.

Prayer shawls

The Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Newcomers are welcome.

WE Home Association

The monthly West End Home Association meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the American Legion in Gilbert.

Snow removal

Effort UMC Trustees are seeking bids for the 2025-26 season of snow removal.

Special visit

Pleasant Valley Class of 2002 graduate Mike Piersa is the historian at the National Museum of Industrial History. He is organizing the 2025 Anthracite Railroad Ramble to Ashland to visit the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine on Aug. 6.

The trip benefits the museum.

The train, operated by Reading and Northern Railroad, will leave at 9 a.m. from the Nesquehoning Regional Station.

Backpack giveaway

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is working with Pocono Mountains United Way by hosting a backpack distribution from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 6.

Hoagie sales

Zion Lutheran Church will take orders for 8-inch hoagies with chips from Aug. 3-24.

People can choose from turkey, ham or Italian.

Orders must be prepaid. Order forms are available at the church office or through the church’s website or Facebook page.

Pickup times are Sept. 6 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. or on Sept. 7 after the 10:30 a.m. worship service until noon.

Proceeds will benefit Zion’s Willing Workers.

August closure

The Kunkletown Thrift Store will be closed in August.

Bonfire time

On Sunday, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., the families and friends of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate a Family Rosary Bonfire at the fire pit behind the pavilion. It will include S’mores, games and the rosary.

Participants should bring a chair and/or a blanket for all in the individual groupings.

Summer day camp

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is offering one more Summer Day Camp session, “Get in Touch with Nature,” for children ages 7-10, Aug. 4-8.

Camp is from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. with an additional fee for late pickup.

Seniors’ needs

The Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville meets from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday.

If anyone has acrylic paints, adult coloring books, blank canvases, glue guns and glue sticks, holiday decorations, paperware and party goods, the items can be donated at the center to help seniors keep busy and alert

Breakfast coming

McMichaels UMC is hosting a breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Aug. 9.

Pig roast

A pig roast benefiting Austin’s Blue Line (an organization focused on suicide awareness and prevention) will be held from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 9 at the American Legion Post in Gilbert.

Pavilion concert

Effort UMC has announced that the next concert in the pavilion will be held on Aug. 9 with The Kings of Queen Street.

A light fare dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. The concert starts at 6 p.m. with a free-will offering for the band.

Attendees are reminded to bring lawn chairs.

PVAG flea market

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, 1086 Weir Lake Road, will hold an all-day, flea market on Aug. 16. Proceeds benefit the Building Project Fund.

The church requests that the following guidelines be observed by all who donate items for the sale, which can be dropped off 7:30-8:30 a.m. the day of the sale: no items related to witchcraft; no smoking paraphernalia; and no alcohol.

PVE carnival

A back-to-school carnival has been scheduled at Pleasant Valley Elementary School on Aug. 13.

Free dog training

The Chestnuthill Township Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a free dog training session from 11 a.m.-to 1 p.m. Aug. 16, by David with University of Pets, at the West End Regional Park on Merwine Hilltop Road.

Quiet Valley events

Quiet Valley is hosting Heritage Craft Day and Civil War Encampment on Aug. 9 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and the Pocono State Craft Festival on Aug. 23 and 24, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The farm’s bake oven is “working” every Saturday.
